The 478th
Drawings • Sculpture • Project management
This sculpture was commissioned by Bouygues Immobilier and takes place on the site of Valmante Castle, in the 9th district of Marseille. Being symbolically the 478th tree of the park, it is intended as a tribute to the botanical heritage that surrounds the castle.
Embracing the classic symbol of trees evoking life in perpetual evolution, the sculpture evolves over time as the different metals oxidise, thereby revealing the colours of the tree. The corten steel gradually reveals a complex texture and brown tones for the trunk and branches, and its foliage will develop green shades over time.
Its shapes reflect the contrast between the vegetation and the contemporary architecture of the buildings recently constructed around the castle, echoing their triangular forms.
